Auto Burglars Give Up Because of Stick Shift

Three suspects in Springfield, Massachusetts approached a food delivery driver at a little after 10 on a Tuesday night, demanding both edible goods and the keys to the vehicle. The trio hopped in the truck, but soon realized it had a stick shift forcing them to flee on foot.
While automatic vehicles do have their advantages, a stick shift can come in handy in certain situations.
In one recent case, three suspects in Springfield, Massachusetts approached a food delivery driver at a little after 10 on a Tuesday night, demanding both the edible goods and the keys to the vehicle.
As the men weren’t backing down and one of them had a knife, the driver complied. They hopped in his vehicle, but soon realized it was not automatic.
According to the local police sergeant John Delaney, “The trio jumped into his car and attempted to steal it, but not one of them knew how to drive a stick-shift car.”
After a little arguing back and forth they got out of the vehicle and fled from the scene on foot. The thieves didn’t leave empty handed though, getting away with some food for dinner.
No arrests have yet been made. Police minimally described the suspects as African-American males who wore dark garments and baseballs hats during the crime.
An investigation is now underway.
