Ariel Sharon's body lies in state in Jerusalem

The body of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who died on Saturday aged 85, has arrived at the Knesset in Jerusalem.

Sharon will lie in state outside the Israeli parliament, where the public will be able to pay their last respects until six pm local time on Sunday.

International figures are expected to attend a ceremony for the divisive former Prime Minister at the Knesset on Monday.

Tony Blair, previously the Prime Minister of Britain will represent the United Kingdom and US Vice President Joe Biden will lead the American delegation.

Other European representatives, such as Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, will also be in attendance on Monday.

Following the memorial ceremony at the Knesset, Ariel Sharon will be buried in a private service at his ranch in the Negev desert, which is also where his late second wife Lily is buried.
