ASSISTED LIVING SENIOR CARE EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION. Contrary to what most of us believe, Assisted Living Facilities offer minimal assistance with personal care and medications. If this type of assistance is needed, it is NOT INCLUDED IN THE BASIC MONTHLY FEE. Usually, assistance with personal care is based on a level or tiered system. Each level or item is an additional cost, for example; Medication management, personal care assistance (assistance with dressing, bathing etc. The cost of these services depends on the amount and number of times each service is needed. In addition, these services need to be planned for and scheduled in advance. Due to the large number of Residents on the schedule for service in Assisted Living Facilities, caregivers are pressed to stick to their schedule and are not likely to provide extra services if the resident is not being charged for it. The level of assistance they can provide is usually minimal due to the small number of staff available to assist the large number of residents with personal care needs. There may be only 3 caregivers who are responsible for personal care needs- bathing dressing, grooming etc. for 50- 150 residents.
