Thailand's military has staged or attempted 18 coups in the last 80 years. Most recently, it overthrew Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in 2006. Now the man leading thousands of protesters trying to unseat the government of Thaksin's sister, Yingluck, has met the heads of the armed forces.
