Less than two years after the Islamic Revolution, the upheaval that turned the entire political system and social classing of the country upside down, Iran came under attack by neighboring Iraq. Under the tyrannical reign of Saddam Hussein and Ba’ath Party, Iraq launched an all out war against Iran in the hope of toppling down the entire newly-founded establishment, doing US’s bidding while acquiring access to Iran’s rich oil fields by annexing Khuzestan Province prolific in oil and agricultural goods.
Miscalculating the will of the Iranian nation, Saddam and his western backers gave it all somewhere around two weeks for Tehran to fall. What they missed to consider in their equation was the determination of an unyielding population led by the sage Imam Khomeini. Soon, Iranians flooded the fronts in what they called the holy defense to protect their homeland and Ideals against an international force spearheaded by Saddam.
The Holy Defense is the story of the Iranian Nation’s heroisms and those of its armed forces who braved all sorts of adversities and challenges to protect their homeland and right of self determination during 8 years of war. Many of the war commanders are interviewed in this movie to provide their firsthand account of what went on in the battle fronts and behind the closed doors of command headquarters.
