When their African missions were struggling with a lack of clean water and a dependable energy supply, the Sisters of Notre Dane de Namur of Ipswich, Massachusetts conceived of a plan to build a photovoltaic prototype. When this system showed it could work in Africa, work began installing them in the missions.
