The office of Deputy Commissioner, Ramanagaram district, was buzzing with activity on Tuesday. As many as 89 students of the gurukul in Nithyananda ashram, accompanied by their parents, attended counselling at the office. The counselling was held after the DC’s office, Child Protection Cell, District Child Welfare Committee and Department of Women and Child Welfare, Ramanagaram district, issued a notice to the gurukul.
It is said that the gurukul, a residential school, does not have the requisite permission from either the Education or Women and Child Welfare departments.
The school is also not affiliated to any board, It has also been said that the school was violating all norms and had failed to apply for registration. Kannada was not being taught there. After issuing the notice, the DC’s office had directed the school authorities to ensure that all students and their parents attend the counselling. During counselling, it emerged that of the 108 students, 19 had been transferred to other schools in the neighbouring States. Of the 89 remaining students, 88 and their parents attended. A report of the counselling will be sent to the head office in Bangalore.
During the counselling session, there was an altercation between Nithyananda supporters and the media personnel.
