FBI Investigate Laser Attack on Planes at LaGuardia

Two incidents involving lasers being pointed into the cockpits of aircraft have prompted the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force to launch an investigation.
Two incidents involving lasers being pointed into the cockpits of aircraft have prompted the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force to launch an investigation.
One of the planes was a commercial flight, and the other a private plane. Both were headed in for a landing at New York’s LaGuardia airport.
According to one pilot’s estimation, the green beam aimed at the commercial plane came from the Bronx, not far from the New York Botanical Garden.
The other came from Queens. It’s been determined that it originated somewhere around the intersection of Broadway and Steinway.
No injuries were reported, but pilots have said that the lasers can cause night blindness.
In previous attacks people have, however, been harmed. One pilot reported suffering a burned retina from the light.
Terrorizing planes with the lasers has been going on for some time and is up by 17 percent over last year.
What has agents troubled about these attacks is that two planes were targeted while headed into the same airport and within a small window of time.
