Cadência is the second Brazilian documentary from director Daren Bartlett. Cadência builds an intimate picture of Brazilian football and the cultural traditions and social divisions that it is closely related to. Cadência honestly portrays the unifying effect that football has been within a divided society, and the ways that it has been used as a political tool to shape the image Brazil projects to the world. The film's stunning cinematography immerses the viewer in the sights and sounds, the rhythms, and the cadences of a city as it winds up for carnival, the biggest celebration of the year.
Insightful and passionate commentary from the late Brazilian football legend Socrates, academics, artists, and not least everyday people, combine to make this powerful and poignant documentary simply a beautiful film.
