Flushing the toilet would seem to be an everyday, necessary task for most people. However for one man in Brooklyn, pushing down on the lever leaves him utterly terrified after a recent and shocking incident.

58-year-old Michel Pierre knew that plumbing maintenance was being carried out in his apartment building to install a backflow prevention valve. However he went about his day and at 11 at night, he flushed after using the bathroom and shockingly the toilet exploded.

Pierre reflected on the ordeal stating “I remember there was a ‘boom’ and the thing exploded in my face. I was blinded and pieces flew all over the place.”

Pierre was left covered in lacerations and blood but thankfully he survived the traumatic incident. However he is left so terrified, Pierre is now flushing the toilet from a safe distance away, by using a rope attached to the handle.

He has also obtained a lawyer, hoping to seek compensation from the agency that runs the 16 story building. Three other toilets also exploded that very same day.

It’s currently believed that when the water was shut off, a build up of air pressure was pushed through the pipes causing the blasts.
