Australian researchers create wireless bionic eye

A team of industrial designers and scientists at Australia's Monash University have developed a bionic eye for the clinically blind, according to ABC News.

The device consists of a glasses-mounted camera that takes information and sends it using a wireless transmitter to a fingernail-sized microchip implanted in the brain.

It enables the blind to see a low-resolution dot-matrix image, providing them with added mobility.

Human trials for the $15 million project are scheduled to begin next year.
