Disgaea D2 gives its predecessors Disgaeas 2, 3, and 4 a miss and serves as a direct sequel to the original 2003 Disgaea, revisiting Laharl's Netherworld and checking in with Etna, Flonne, Plenair, and the rest of those familiar faces. In a return-to-form for the series, the more complicated mechanics like classroom seating assignments and "character worlds" are excised in favor of added emphasis on the Item World, a new Demon Dojo for boosting character stats on each level-up, and a Cheat Shop for altering the balance of the game to suit your whims. (Even if "Your Whims" means "Giving every enemy in the game a 2100-level boost.)
