After learning that their field test is being suspended, because they aren't ready, the Space Cases try to prove themselves by making contact with an alien ship they find outside the Starcadamy called the Christa. After Commander Goddard and Miss Davenport go looking for them on the ship, the Christa is pulled through a spacial rip and they learn that it will take over seven years to get home.
