Plan d'Orientation -- Tourrettes-sur-Loup, France

I rented a "gîte" (a self-catering, furnished vacation rental) called "Les Nuits d'Antan" at 27, Grand(e) Rue in Tourrettes-sur-Loup on the French Riviera for a week. It was through "Gîtes de France" and I was really happy with it. This is one of the quieter, more laid-back famous "perched villages" of the Côte d'Azur, overlooking the Mediterranean sea and at great altitude in the Maritime Alps.
The local potter made this beautiful "plan d'orientation" for visitors and residents to understand what they are looking at, far away and below. There is a pagan point of interest here (a shrine to Mercury), a little point of Christian faith, and if you like sports, there are a wide variety here. I have some mobility issues so had to move slowly and carefully here, but I loved it and had a fine time.
This clip was made in May, 2013 -- early in the "high tourist season." This part of the world has two dry spells annually, Summer and Winter, so enjoys two Springs every year. It's a microclimate favorable to citrus trees, olives, cacti and succulents, and it seldom freezes.
I misspoke here -- it's the "Train des Pignes," but a now discontinued spur of it did used to serve Digne, I believe. Part of this old railroad, which people gave their lives to build as you can imagine, still operates and is vital to the region still. Many of these villages are at least 800 meters above sea level and exist for strategic/defense reasons. Tourrettes-sur-Loup has sheer rock face below most of it -- some of the places around here made me uneasy, they are really so precarious. Don't worry, if you don't like heights, you can stay down at the beach. It's all gorgeous in these parts.
