If you spent 5 minutes with Craig Maclean you would probably ask to see some fight footage to prove that he’s a Mixed Martial Artist. He doesn’t have a shaved head. He’s not covered in tattoos. He doesn’t have any noticeable anger issues. Born in Dubai, UAE, his parents moved him and his 3 siblings to British Columbia, Canada to get a new start when he was 7. Craig was immediately hooked on sports, playing nearly every sport offered inside school and out – Ball Hockey, Roller Hockey, Ice Hockey, Soccer, Basketball, Track & Field, and Skateboarding.
In 2005 Craig attended a local MMA event in Vancouver with some friends. This was the first time he’d ever witnessed the sport – he had never even watched any UFC’s. Just a few minutes into the first fight and he knew this was something he had to do. The following week Craig enrolled at a local gym and eventually found his way to the renowned Revolution Fight Team, home of many world-class fighters. Pretty quickly he fell in love with and excelled at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Boxing. He followed that up by jumping into some local tournaments and had a few amateur boxing fights.
After a few years at the gym, things became pretty stagnant in his life with work and training and eventually stopped training and found his way working 60+ hour weeks. He quickly fell out of shape. Sick and tired with his life and after about a year and a half away from the gym, Craig felt that itch to start training again and to take the sport seriously. 18 months after returning to the gym, he stepped into the ring for his first MMA fight. While he didn’t come out with the result that he had hoped for, it was an amazing experience and he was more motivated than ever. Craig has a very aggressive style which resulted in his next fight going on to be a fight-of-the-night battle.
After dropping down to the Bantamweight division he rallied with 3 straight victories over dangerous kickboxers.
