Andre Kirk Agassi was born in April 29, 1970 in Las Vegas and is an American retired tennis player.
At the age of 13, he’s sent to Nick Bollottieri’s Tennis Academy in Florida and was meant to stay only 3 months as his father couldn’t afford more.
But Bollottieri was so impressed by his talent that he kept Agassi for free.
Agassi dropped out of school in the 9th grade to get onto a full-time tennis career.
He was No.1 in the ATP, an 8 times Grand Slam champion and a 1996 Olympic gold medalist.
He was the first male player to win four Australian Open titles during the Open Era.
He’s the only man to win a “Career Super Slam” namely all four majors, the Olympic gold medal and at least one title at the ATP World Championships.
Agassi is the first male player to win all four Grand Slam on three different surfaces: hard, clay and grass.
He’s the last American to win the French Open in 1999. And the Australian Open in 2003.
He reached the world No.1 ranking for the first time in 1995 but due to personal problems he dropped to No. 141 in 1997.
At this time, many believed that his career was over but he proved them wrong by returning No.1 in 1999.
The end of his career is marked with an ankle injury, back and leg pain.
He received a four-minute standing ovation from the crowd for his final US Open.
