Eye of the Coach #49: Alizé Cornet is an extremely intense player

Tennis Majors

Alizé Cornet went on a sublime run at the Australian Open in January, reaching her first Grand Slam quarter-final at the age of 32. She eliminated Simona Halep, ranked 22nd in the world, in the round of 16 after three tough sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-4) before falling to Danielle Collins, the eventual finalist.

Cornet has not changed throughout her career, displaying the same rage as always – and that’s a strength that can also get her out of trouble, according to Patrick Mouratoglou. In the latest episode of The Eye of the Coach, he explains that the Frenchwoman “has lost many matches” because of her frustration. But Cornet is, according to him, a fierce player, who “sometimes goes beyond her limits”.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE EYE OF THE COACH WITH PATRICK MOURATOGLOU

0.15 – Alizé Cornet is a hard worker. She sometimes goes beyond her limits, and can go as far as fainting in training.
0.35 – The Frenchwoman has a varied game, but is a more comfortable player from the baseline.
0.50 – Cornet’s determination and desire can sometimes backfire, even to the point of losing some matches when events do not go her way.
1.15 – The 2022 season is perhaps the last of Cornet’s career, meaning that she has been playing more freely.
