After graduating from Marklands Secondary School in Durban, South Africa in 1994, Sujay Ishwarlall decided to embark upon a career in health care. He has since trained extensively in the field, beginning with obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, or MBChB, at the University of Kwa-zulu Natal and the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine in 2000. After finishing his undergraduate studies, he then went on to the Colleges of Medicine in South Africa for post-graduate work and obtained his Diploma in Anaesthesia in 2005. He also finished a Fellowship in Anaesthesia that went from January of 2007 to December 2010.

While undergoing this extensive and rigorous training, Sujay Ishwarlall also got hands-on experience. He did an internship at Frere Hospital in East London, South Africa in 2001, taking rotations in a number of different sub-specialities. These specialties included Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery and Paediatrics. He has also been the Community Service Medical Officer at Christ the King Hospital, along with several other positions leading up to his current post as the Departmental Head of Anaesthesiology at Moose Jaw Union Hospital in Saskatchewan, Canada.
