The Sahara is the biggest desert in the world and a truly amazing kaleidoscope of colours, landscapes, cultures and history. A place of life and diversity, where the survival of people, plants and animals is finely balanced against the daily challenges of heat and drought.
Sadly, the Sahara’s uniquely adapted wildlife is seriously threatened by over-hunting and the impact of development. One antelope, the scimitar-horned oryx, is already extinct in the wild, with other species like the addax, dama gazelle, desert ostrich and cheetah close on its heels.
SCF was established to address this crisis through a mix of field projects, advocacy, research and communications.
