00:00Outside of federal buildings in Oregon and Illinois, protesters are coming face-to-face
00:05with federal law enforcement over the Trump administration's escalating ICE raids and
00:09National Guard deployments.
00:11It's not a war zone!
00:13In Chicago, the clashes led to federal agents deploying tear gas, shooting rubber bullets,
00:18and arresting protesters over the weekend.
00:20A 30-year-old woman was shot and injured by a Border Patrol agent Saturday after Department
00:25of Homeland Security officials alleged she was armed and used her car to ram a federal
00:30vehicle.
00:31They claimed it was defensive fire, but frankly, we cannot trust anything that comes out of
00:37the administration.
00:38For weeks, President Trump has vowed to deploy the National Guard to Chicago over political
00:42demonstrations and crime rates that local leaders dispute.
00:46Illinois Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker has not complied with the president, prompting
00:50Trump to instead authorize hundreds of Guard members from Texas be sent in.
00:56If people don't care, they don't want crime in their cities, and we're doing it, and we're
01:01doing it well.
01:02The administration unsuccessfully tried to use a similar strategy in Oregon over the weekend.
01:08A Trump-appointed judge blocked the president's plan to send in federal troops, siding with local
01:13and state officials in ruling the president's description of protests in Portland was simply
01:18untethered to the facts.
01:21Portland police say no one was arrested during the weekend protests, adding they didn't observe
01:24any person or property crimes.
01:27Just hours after that first ruling, Oregon's Attorney General received notice that the
01:31administration is deploying the California National Guard, prompting an emergency hearing
01:36where the judge halted any troops from being deployed to Oregon, at least for now.
01:41When the court says no, the court means no, and that is not an invocation for negotiation.
