00:00Hi everyone, and welcome back to the Tropical Aviary Birds channel.
00:04My name is Torben Delholm. Today, I'm visiting Henning Trank, an incredibly skilled Danish
00:09bird breeder. If you've followed the channel before, you might recall my previous visits,
00:14which you can watch for more insights. Henning maintains a diverse collection of birds,
00:19including tropical finches, waxbills, softbills, and two species of cockatoos in his outdoor
00:25aviaries. His breeding setups are impressive, and many birds now have chicks in nests or perched
00:31outside. We'll see some truly beautiful and rare species today. Before we begin, please like this
00:37video and subscribe to the channel. It really helps. If you'd like to support the channel further,
00:43consider becoming a paying member. Your support is greatly appreciated. Henning's facility features
00:48multiple aviaries and breeding cages, and today we'll take a closer look at how he manages his birds.
00:55Among the species, you'll find common ones like society finches, along with very rare birds
01:00rarely seen in captivity, especially bred successfully. One highlight is Henning's smart
01:06feeding system, which lets him feed the birds without unlocking cages or handling small doors.
01:12We'll see it in action soon. He also breeds his own feeder insects, including giant mealworms,
01:18morio worms, and regular mealworms. I'll cover this in a separate video soon, so stay tuned.
01:23To improve breeding success, Henning uses society finches as foster parents for challenging species,
01:30preventing chick losses. He even dedicates small cages for this purpose, though he always aims to
01:36have the original parents raise their chicks when possible. Henning used to keep some small finches
01:41outdoors in summer, as I do, but lost more birds than he could breed. That's why he now keeps them
01:47indoors year-round in climate-controlled conditions, ensuring excellent care.
01:51If you have any questions for Henning, leave them in the comments, and I'll try to respond or get his
01:56input. Henning keeps multiple pairs of each species to maintain genetic diversity and avoid losing an
02:03entire line if one bird is lost, and this lets him pair unrelated birds when selling young ones.
02:09Typically, there is one pair per species per aviary, though sometimes different species share space,
02:15carefully arranged to minimize disturbances. For species without visible sex differences,
02:21he uses DNA testing to determine gender before pairing, which is crucial for a well-managed breeding
02:27program. Many thanks to Henning for hosting us again. His expertise in bird breeding is remarkable,
02:33and I hope you enjoy this tour. If you liked this video, please give it a thumbs up, subscribe,
02:38and consider becoming a paying supporter. It truly makes a difference.
02:42Do you have bird questions or ideas for new videos? Post your comments below. I read every message and
02:48look forward to answering your queries or suggestions. Thanks for watching. See you in the next video.
