00:00So John, a really good run out against Reading today and a 4-0 win.
00:04What do you make of that?
00:05Yeah, I thought that, just said to the lads in there, a really good run out.
00:08And there's, I speak about this every time we speak after pre-season games,
00:12number one, from the fitness aspect, making sure we get through without injury.
00:15Shocks just went down with cramp, and I think that's the consequence of,
00:19and first of all, I think that's the longest Shocks has played in quite a while.
00:22He did play at the back end of the season, but maybe for the whole game he played about 60 minutes,
00:26but matching that off the back in a really heavy week for everyone,
00:31we've really pushed the boys this week, so nothing to worry about there.
00:33I think we've got through injury-free, we've got minutes in the tank for the boys,
00:38which is really good.
00:39The performance was there in large parts, which is the next part of, I think,
00:42what makes a good pre-season game.
00:44And yeah, we've managed to get the result, which is pleasing as well,
00:46just to get in those habits, getting the right habits of trying to score goals
00:49at the right times when we're on top and keeping a clean sheet.
00:53Slightly for shooters, probably because we've got the block in the second half,
00:55but overall, I think, you know, a pretty fair scoreline.
00:59You controlled the game largely as well, didn't you?
01:01Yeah, it was a good game. I mean, Reading pressed us high.
01:03We had to figure out how we were going to get out of that at certain times.
01:07It was certainly, you know, different to some presses and similar to what we expected,
01:13but, you know, definitely something that I thought posed us a lot of issues
01:16and posed us a lot of problems, and it did last week for a good Spurs side
01:20that came here as well.
01:21So, yeah, very, very good game for us, I think, at this stage of the season.
01:25We have tried to sort of, if not in opposition, sort of upgrade the pre-season friendlies this year,
01:30so I think this time last year we played a really good Wickham side and lost,
01:33but it was at the training ground, so coming to the stadium,
01:36first of all, I think for the fans to be able to come here
01:38and just get that different feel, that different atmosphere,
01:41I think it becomes a lot more competitive, and that was really pleasing for us.
01:44I suppose, in the heft of all, that Cameron Lang should score today.
01:47There's been plenty said and written about him this week.
01:49Yeah, you know, one of those that always brings a smile to my face,
01:53but you can see, you know, today that's a player that was, you know,
01:56playing for the sake of it, he's playing because he's been such a good player
02:01in his short time for Portsmouth so far, and, yeah, he definitely played today
02:05as a player that you can tell he's committed to Portsmouth and wants to be here,
02:08and I thought he was excellent in a different position today.
02:10So, really pleasing to see Callum back out on the pitch,
02:13and, yeah, hopefully that puts a bit of an end to all the speculation.
02:16It's obvious you've got to be careful with him regarding his hamstring as well
02:18in the comeback, isn't it?
02:19That's why we brought him off after 45.
02:21It's honestly why he didn't play last week.
02:23I know sometimes the coincidence of everything that pops up online
02:27and then I'm not seeing him in the starting line-up.
02:29I know we'd spoken about the fact he wasn't going to be in the starting line-up.
02:32Colby, we decided to play because he had a knock,
02:35so Callum's been great all week.
02:38He's been at it, and, yeah, really good to play him,
02:41and it was always a planned substitution after 45 minutes from him.
02:43What have you made of the rumours and reports about his future?
02:46I think there's always going to be links, I suppose,
02:49when a player goes and scores 10 goals, and that's a compliment to Callum.
02:54As far as we're concerned, as far as I'm concerned as a head coach,
02:59we know that Callum's going to be here this season.
03:01We know he's not for sale, which is a good part of,
03:03a really positive part of this football club.
03:06There's absolutely no pressure to sell any players,
03:08even if we do receive bids.
03:10I want to say that it's never going to happen in the future with any player,
03:13but, yeah, certainly we're not in a position where we need to even think about
03:16selling a player like Callum.
03:17Was there a bid for him?
03:19I have no idea.
03:19That's honestly nothing that comes to my door.
03:23I just got told I got a call on Saturday morning,
03:25said, ignore all the rumours online.
03:26Absolutely nothing in here.
03:27Callum's your player.
03:28You're not going to have to deal with any of that,
03:29and that is with the beauty of being a head coach,
03:31because I'm just going to concentrate on the call again.
03:33Of course, you brought two players in yesterday as well.
03:36Yeah, really, really positive.
03:37The two players that we're excited to bring in,
03:41two players bringing them in from the continent,
03:43so that's taken a little bit longer than we expected.
03:47Luke's been on the radar for a long time,
03:49and we just wanted to get that position right.
03:51We wanted to make sure we bring in the right six.
03:53We've always wanted to strengthen there.
03:55Mark's been a player that's been put on our radar this summer,
03:57and we think with the both of those,
04:00we've bolstered options in the midfield.
04:01Luke is a six.
04:02Mark is much more of an eight.
04:03We've got them in the building.
04:04They didn't train with us yesterday.
04:06We didn't get all the paperwork through in time,
04:08but they both trained in a smaller group this morning,
04:10and they'll be with their first team on Monday morning.
04:13When would we like to see them in action?
04:15Probably not until Saturday.
04:18So, yeah, it's a difficult one.
04:23Mark's in a good spot.
04:24He's been training with MTK pre-season,
04:28so he's in a good spot physically.
04:30Luke's in a different slot because Varnamo's season's still been going on,
04:33but over the last couple of weeks,
04:35because of the transfer speculation,
04:36he's not been playing,
04:37and he's sort of been training on his own at home,
04:40so that's slightly different.
04:41Mark hasn't.
04:42Mark's just been training and prepping as normal.
04:45So we have to be careful with them,
04:47particularly as when you do bring these players over,
04:50it's not straightforward.
04:51They don't sort of drive down the motorway
04:54and they're going really okay quickly.
04:56They're coming over from Europe.
04:58It's a three-, four-day process, the signing itself.
05:01I think the pair of them have been in England since Wednesday,
05:04haven't trained properly,
05:05so it's going to be Monday before they train properly.
05:06So I think just a bit of patience on both of them.
