Marla was born in London to Congolese parents in 1998. She started playing the bass guitar aged 12 and has since played many high-profile performances in various countries, including Glastonbury, Gaeta Jazz Festival in Italy and Safaricom International Jazz Festival in Nairobi, Kenya.
Throughout her career Marla has been performing with talented artists like Yazmin Lacey and Obongjayar, and taken up the opportunity to learn from incredible musicians from further afield, such as Omar Puente (Cuba) and Sanju Sahai (India). In addition to making her a well-rounded musician, the experiences have exposed her to a wider range of genres and allowed her to grow as a performer.
Marla’s DJ sets aim to reflect her eclectic taste and incorporate a rich mélange of music that is dear to her: from the rumba and soukous she was raised on, to the MPB she fell in love with whilst touring Brazil.
