Having been on air, on screen, or on stage all her life, #JerviWrightson, also known as KaladKaren, has witnessed, over the past decade, how media representation of the LGBTQIA+ community has changed in the Philippines. Strides have been made, she acknowledges, but there’s still quite a way to go.

On this episode of ‘The Rolling Stone Philippines Interview,’ the award-winning actress, first Filipino transgender news anchor, and TV host talks about how her “KaladKaren” persona was born, the struggles to get gender-affirming care in the Philippines, and the importance of providing accurate information, accessible education, and genuine support for members of the queer community.
