Home to the largest musical library in the country, EMI (Pakistan) Ltd commenced its journey in 1948 as “The Gramophone Company of Pakistan”, with full shareholding of His Master’s Voice (HMV) Group UK. Subsequent to the divestment of the EMI UK Group in 1991, the company adopted its current name EMI (Pakistan) Ltd in 1993.   With its first archived recording - a Madam Noor Jehan track - dating back to 1939, EMI Pakistan is a household name and a stable for the country’s greatest artistes and groups.     Our extensive archival records consist of tracks from a variety of genres ranging from Ghazals, Qawwalis, Pure Eastern Classical music, Popular (Pop) music as it changed from time to time, Instrumentals, Films soundtracks, Folk Music, etc. The repertoire of tracks is over 60,000 unique gems and the library continues to grow.   EMI (Pakistan) takes pride in being the custodian of the country’s musical heritage as some of the biggest names in the music industry including but not limited to Noor Jehan, Mehdi Hassan, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali, Iqbal Bano, Farida Khanum, Ghulam Farid Sabri, Alam Lohar, the bulk of the best pop stars and many others are associated with the company.    As musical trends changed so did the company’s ability to identify and present new talent for its listeners. Technology and modern day developments left music labels worldwide almost clueless, as to how to capitalize on the newest generation of consumers and consumption platforms. EMI (Pakistan) Ltd was leading from the front as early as 2000, to cater to emerging platforms.  The company stands today as a beacon for labels, on how legacy and new content can co-exist with commercial success, on varied dissemination platforms.
