Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi was born on November 1st, 1945 in Gujrat. He is the President Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid (PML-Q) and former Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chief Minister of Punjab. Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi hails from a powerful but humble political and industrialist family which believes in serving the people of Pakistan.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi is son of late Pakistani politician, Chaudhry Manzoor Ellahi. He is from a political and business family, commonly referred to as Chaudhrys of Gujrat. His cousin and brother-in-law, Chaudhry Shujat Hussain, President Pakistan Muslim League served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from May to August 2004.
His father Chaudhry Manzoor Ellahi is the brother of Late Ch. Zahoor Ellahi who was assassinated in a terrorist attack on 25th September, 1981. His elder son Moonis Ellahi is a well known young political leader of Pakistan.
Education
After enrolling at the Forman Christian College University in 1963, he graduated with BA degree in 1967 and obtained master’s diploma in Industrial Management from Watford College of Technology London, UK in 1971.
Business
After completing his education, he joined the family business in textiles. Now the family owns textiles, sugar and flour mills.
Political career
He came into active politics in 1983 and became the chairman of District Council Gujrat in 1983.He has been serving as an MPA (Member of the Provincial Assembly) of the Punjab province since 1985.He served as Minister for Local Government and Rural Development during 1985-88, 1988-90 and 1990-93. He was Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly during 1993-96, and also the Leader of the Opposition later. He was the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly during 1997-99.
He is the elected President of Pakistan Muslim League, Punjab. In the general election 2002, he was elected Member of the Punjab Assembly for the 6th consecutive term and became the Chief Minister of Punjab to set records of development.
