Zomick's Challah Recipe

New York City. The early 1940’s. David Zomick stepped on dry land after the long Atlantic voyage. Fleeing from pre-war Europe he arrived with little to his name… only a handful of recipes in a weathered journal, among them the most valued Zomick’s Challah Recipe. It was his most valued possession: a hand written diary of the flavors and traditions of Eastern Europe Kosher delicacies.
By the 1950 David had scrimped and saved enough to open his own Kosher bakery in lower New York and served that bustling immigrant community happily for many years. David’s son, Mark, married Selma Milton and moved to Inwood, where took another approach on the baking business. They decided to open the Zomick’s Kosher Bakery. Time passed and they served the New Yorkers with bread. The smell of fresh baked Zomick’s bread, the sweetness of fresh preserves layered on a flakey crust, became a part of the heritage that follows the bakery to this day.
Today the Zomick’s bakery is one of the oldest Kosher certified bakeries in New York. Zomick’s recipes of three generations ago live again as part of the family’s legacy and commitment to making pastries, cakes, cookies, challahs and breads, all labeled by Zomick’s.
