What was happening in the world one hundred years ago? Hi this is Matt and here are 5 New York Times headlines from March 21st, 1913.

Number 5 - Women in 1913 were lagging in education, employment, and other aspects. And their advancement in those areas made news. One headline read '32 more women lawyers'. One even got a big scholarship. 'A prize scholarship, the gift of New York University, valued at $360 in the form of three years' free tuition in the University Law School, was awarded to Miss Anna E. Masterson.'

Number 4 - Small bomb explosions was not that uncommon in Manhattan back then. A Prince Street store was wrecked by one of them. The New York Times noted - 'Under cover of the heavy fog a bomb was placed in the doorway of the men's furnishing store on the ground floor of the tenement house. The explosion was heard for several blocks.'

Number 3 - Easter was arriving and so were the sales. This one of a Manhattan clothing store grabs your attention. This is our third Easter of clothes intimacy with the Man of Manhattan. It finds us with six clothing stores - six recognized points on the island where the exacting New Yorker may be clothed.

Number 2 - The Mexican Revolution was underway and the lives of many Americans in Mexico were in danger. Americans in Cananea were rushing to border as an insurgent attack was imminent. The report noted - 'American women and children from the mining settlement at Cananea, are being rushed to the border to-night in automobiles.'

Number 1 - Bizarre crime stories have been around forever. A hundred years ago, some thieves were disappointed about finding just $30 in a home. Their anger resulted in the house being ransacked. 'After they had smeared a dozen eggs over the paintings, they poured milk on the furniture and carpets.'
