Lido Venice Dance Orchestra - Bring Back Those Rock-a-bye Baby Days
  • 12 years ago
This video by the abovementioned band is a request. Hardly anything is known about this obscure orchestra, a seven-piece outfit led by Harl Smith. What makes things even more confusing is that another, almost equally obscure orchestra was called "Lido Venice Orchestra" (omitting "Dance"), the latter being led by Jacques Renard. The band featured on this recording was managed by Paul Specht and comprised: Barney Russell (Trombone/Bass Sax/Clarinet/Alto Sax/Vocal); John Evert Davidson (Banjo); Harl Smith (Drums/Leader); Fred Morrow Clarinet/Alto Sax/Baritone Sax); William “Bill” Haid (Piano); Joe Rose (Comet) and Henry Nathan (Violin/Clarinet/Alto Sax/Guitar). This definitely hot performance was waxed in 1924. For your information, I refer to remarkable recordings (not mentioned in Rust's Dance Band Discography), apparently by the same musicians, made for the German Vox label.
