STORY: A bus carrying Bolivian students to an athletic meet in La Paz plunged off a mountain road on Thursday, killing at least 16 people and injuring more than 30.
Local websites reported the bus was carrying students and teachers from the Chicaloma school district when it dropped 394 feet down a steep ravine. Witnesses said the bus was trying to avoid another vehicle when it swerved off the road.
Television images showed the bus completely destroyed, with bodies and belongings strewn along the hillside.
Officials reported there were 52 people on the bus.
