At least nine people died and nine were injured in a Sunday (November 3) plane crash in northeast Bolivia.

The AEROCON Fairchild metro 23 plane had trouble landing at the Riberalta airport, in Beni province, authorities said. It exploded into flames next to the landing strip at 4pm local time (2000GMT).

Dozens of residents descended on the scene to pull victims from the debris and put out the flames while onlookers pulled out their cellphones to film the scene.

Authorities said the victims, all Bolivians, included three government officials.
