STORY: Hundreds of protesting Egyptians camped near the Ministry of Defense in Cairo on Friday night before renewing on Saturday their call for the generals, who have ruled Egypt since Hosni Mubarak's overthrow last year, to stand down.

The demonstrators also demanded that the Presidential Election commission be dissolved after it upheld a ban on two Islamist presidential candidates and allowed Hosni Mubarak's former Prime Minister to run.

The protesters were mainly from the ultra-conservative 'Salafi' movement, with many of them supporters of Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, who was disqualified from the race because his mother held dual US-Egyptian citizenship.

A cordon of barbed wire had been set up on Friday to stop the protesters from marching on the Defense Ministry headquarters in the Abbasiya neighborhood near downtown Cairo.
