Benny Meroff & His Orchestra - Lonely Melody
  • 12 years ago
Sadly, my previous video credited to this band (although in that case a Trumbauer alias) was rejected, which is even less understandable since it was a rarely heard song. Hence I hope I will be luckier with this even rarer song, this time actually by Sam Lanin (for more info about Lanin, I refer to my other Lanin uploads). For documentary reasons, I decided nevertheless to share some sheet music featuring Meroff. Although well-known in his day, he is largely forgotten today. Composer and bandleader, he led an orchestra in Chicago in the 20's & 30's. He was the "house band" for the Marlboro, Paramount and Granada Theatres back then. This lovely record, featuring Seger Ellis, was made in 1928.
