Adolfo Carabelli y su orquesta - Japonesita

Adolfo Carabelli, an Argentinian pianist and composer a well as a tango, jazz and dance band leader (1897-1947) is best remembered for his tango recordings but even was much more versatile, a fact which sadly is largely forgotten today. After a thorough classical training in his homeland and Europe, in 1917 he switched to jazz and popular styles. The first orchestra he led was named River Jazz Band. In 1926 Victor hired him as artistic director of the label, and at the same time commissioned him to form an orchestra which would play either jazz or tango music. Some discs were published as Adolfo Carabelli y su orquesta, others as Adolfo Carabelli y su orquesta típica and others as Adolfo Carabelli y su jazz band. Even though his name was not on the record labels he also led the renowned Orquesta típica Victor. Moreover he worked for radio stations and wrote film scores. He waxed his last record in 1940; he spent the last years of his life teaching. This great record was made in 1927.
