ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION.
Chilean students clashed with police on Wednesday (September 14) in Santiago in ongoing protests to demand unpopular President Sebastian Pinera boost education spending.
The march started peacefully, with police looking on as students marched through the streets of the capital. It has become a familiar scene in Santiago, where student-led protests have been going on for months.
Clashes with police increased as the day went on.
Water trucks dispersed students armed with rocks and Molotov cocktails and police arrested several demonstrators.
The students have been joined by thousands of activists and working class citizens who feel too many Chileans are being left out of the copper price boom.
A conservative billionaire, Pinera is the most unpopular president since democracy returned to the nation in 1990.
Despite reshuffling his cabinet twice, Pinera has been unable to control incessant social upheaval.
