STORY: Chilean students took to the streets of Santiago Thursday demonstrating against the high cost of education in the country a year after the student protest movement began.
In a scene that has become commonplace in Santiago over the past year, police used a water cannon and tear gas to attempt to remove students from the streets.
The protesters responded by throwing rocks and other objects at the police.
The students are frustrated at government's failure to deliver what they consider to be an adequate response to their demands. Demonstrations have spread to other sectors and plagued President Sebastian Pinera's first term.
The students began protesting in June 2011 about the high cost and poor quality of higher education in Chile, where tuition costs are among the world's highest.
