Parenting and Careers: Catching Up After Maternity Leave - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Upon returning from maternity leave, you are probably anxious to get up to speed quickly. So there are a few steps you can take to make sure that happens: One is you probably want to have a phone conversation, or even better, an in person conversation with your boss beforehand. So that, you know, you are talking about sort of what is going on when you have been on leave, where the projects are, their status, what you can take on when you come back and how you can take it on, and probably most importantly, how you will transition back into the career or the job, and what that looks like for you. You know, I highly recommend you consider talking with your manager about potentially a seguai or a transition back into your job. To look at whether it is part time in the beginning or working from home a couple of days a week, and if that is really just not possible, it may not be, to at least at a bare minimum, scheduling your first week back as a short week. Because it is just going to be a lot less overwhelming for you and your baby and your family. And just as important, if you are planning to breastfeed, you will want to have that conversation with your employer. Because you will need a private room, with a lock ideally and you are going to have to take a break every, you know, couple hours to make sure that you can express your milk for your baby. So have that conversation upfront with your employer, talk about how you can work together to make that happen if that is something you want.
