Zion National Park - The Subway Hike - Jon and Cari Go ...
Jon and Cari go for a hike! Cari is 10 months post Achilles Tendon tear surgery and is anxious to get moving. This was our "She's Back!!!" excursion which we planned as part of our summer vacation. Cari mapped out the route to the "subway" hike and we originally wanted to do from the top down, but flash flood warnings prevented us from doing the entire hike. We didn't know the area well enough to determine if even doing the hike from the bottom up was even safe for this day. Flash floods killed a guy just days before we got there, and safety was on the highest alert. Cari's Achilles' Tendon is doing great, although the stability in her foot is still not 100%. There were many points during this hike that she couldn't "feel" her footing, and that will only come with time. The Achilles Tendon Rupture is one of the slowest healing injuries to occur. It is such a nasty break in lifestyle and can only be described as being "terrible." Cari is a soldier though and as tough as they come. She says she is doing so well (despite complications from the surgery) because she is not letting her injury keep her down. She continues to do therapy and exercises daily, walks her active beagles - "Walter and Bindy" and lifts weights. If she were not so active, her recovery would not be going so smoothly.
