Adrian Rollini Orchestra - Hustlin' And Bustlin' For Baby
  • 15 years ago
Rollini (1903-1956) was a multi-instrumentalist best known for his jazz music. He played the bass saxophone, piano, xylophone, and many other instruments. Rollini is also known for introducing the goofus in jazz music. He cut many sides under the California Ramblers and formed two subgroups- The Little Ramblers (starting in 1924) and the Goofus Five (most prominently 1926-1927). During this time, he managed to lay down hundreds of sessions with names like Hanshaw, Cliff Edwards Joe Venuti and his Blue Four, The University Six, Miff Mole, and Red Nichols. Some of his best work appears on the sides he cut with Beiderbecke. He also worked with Wolfe Kahn, Trumbauer and Nichols. Fred Elizalde was leading a band in London. Rollini submitted his resignation to the Ramblers, and agreed to join Elizalde, along with Quealey, Felline, and Russin in 1927 and stayed until 1928. He continued to work Lee Morse, The Dorsey Brothers, Ben Selvin and Jack Teagarden on into the depression and the 30s. However, according to the new style, Rollini adopted a smoother, quieter sound. In 1932 he formed Adrian Rollini and his Orchestra. This is one of their records, made in 1933. It should be noted that the vocalist shown in the video is Joey Nash, because he is erroneously listed in reference books, but in the meantime it appeared to be Dick Robertson.
