Colin Jones vs Milton McCrory for the vacant WBC world welterweight title

Colin Jones was a fairly short welterweight, standing 5'6". His two main attributes as a boxer were his punching power with both hands and his ability to absorb punishment. In Jones's first fight with McCrory, he conceded most of the early rounds while slowly wearing McCrory down. In the ninth round - the same round he won both his encounters with Kirkland Laing despite losing nearly every previous round - Jones hurt McCrory badly, and spent the rest of the fight trying to finish him off. The result was a split decision draw and a rematch as the WBC title was still vacant.
Milton McCrory was six inches taller than Colin Jones, and had a significant reach advantage. He was an excellent boxer puncher with one of the best trainers in the world in his corner. Being a member of the Kronk Gym meant McCrory had access to some of the best sparring partners and other champions, such as Thomas Hearns. McCrory was being groomed as the next Kronk superstar, and his draw against Jones was the first blemish on his professional record.
