Edson Flores Fatal Crash @ Rally Apurímac 2023 (Aftermath)

Prominent Peruvian rally driver from Abancay, Edson Flores Magariño lost his life on Saturday, 29 April 2023, during the eight edition of the Rally Apurímac held in the province of the same name, in southern Peru.

Flores Magariño lost control of his white, black and red Toyota Corolla #269 which went off the road on the stretch named Orccoñe Chico, in the infamous "La Curva de la Muerte" (Death Curve) and fell into an almost 100-meter ravine. The driver was killed instantly, his co-driver Jordan Rivera survived and was transported to Abancay hospital.

Following the news of the fatal accident, the rally which was part of the celebrations for Apurímac province's 150th anniversary, was stopped.

Edson Flores Magariño won the ST class in the Automóvil Club Señor de Illanya Abancay Championship in 2019. He mainly participated on dirt surfaces rallies before the 2023 Rally Apurímac which was his first asphalt rally.
