Prepping Pups For New Baby's Arrival - The Creation Of Us (S2:E7)

In a few weeks Christen and Heather will become parents and they are excitedly preparing themselves and their home for the new baby’s arrival. In this episode of The Creation Of Us, there are three other important members of their household that also need to get ready for some major changes – their dogs Missy, Oliver, and Lilly.
Fortunately, they have an expert in the family who is ready, willing, and able to work with their precious pups to get them ready for the uncertain days ahead. Kristen’s Mom, Charlene, is a certified canine behaviorist and trainer and she has a plan and specific tips for the parents and pooches to help keep everyone safe and cared for when the baby joins the household.
“I hope to train the dogs to understand that life is going to be different for them now,” Charlene explained. “The biggest problem when people have a new baby is that the parents just automatically assume that the dogs understand what their new role is. It is really our job to let them know there are now boundaries when it comes to the baby.”
Safety is the top priority. Training the dogs to sit and stay and not jump and run is critical, especially during quiet time when the baby is nursing or sleeping or when carrying the baby up and down stairs. With three dogs and three different personalities, it will take a variety of techniques to get each one used to the new sounds in the house and all the baby “stuff” (swings, toys, bottles, etc.) which will now be laying around.
