Free Home Cleaning Gives Cancer Patients Peace and Hope
  • 4 years ago
Most of us are either directly impacted or know someone affected by breast cancer. In recognition of this ongoing battle, OnlyGood.tv will be sharing several stories throughout October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, to shed light on how individuals and families are coping with this disease.

Women undergoing cancer treatment are not at their best. The everyday pleasures of caring for their family and home become struggles and many worry about not being able to keep up their daily routine.

Enter the nonprofit, Cleaning For A Reason, which provides the gift of free house cleaning to women undergoing any type of cancer treatments. Founded in 2006 by Debbie Sardone, this organization is giving hope and energy to these women that they can fight and win their battle!

The idea to start Cleaning For A Reason came to Debbie a few years ago when, as the owner of Buckets & Bows Maid Service, she had a call with a prospective client who told Debbie, “I won’t be able to afford that now; I’m undergoing cancer treatment” and hung up. Since Debbie had not gotten the woman’s phone number, she was unable to call back to make arrangements and in that instant decided no woman undergoing cancer treatment would ever be turned away by her business. In fact, they would even be offered a free housecleaning service!

Today, over 1200 maid services are donating their time and over 30,000 women in treatment have received this timely gift. Cancer survivor, Stacey Schwinghammer. was relieved to be able to focus on her family instead of cleaning. "It gave me a sense of peace knowing that the one thing I didn't have to worry about was my home," she reflected. “It changed my world.”

This unique organization is giving patients the support they need that makes them feel that they can beat cancer and their life is under control. "Women may be down in their health, but what we do lifts them right back up!" says cleaning technician, Kathy Steinkopf.

Cleaning For A Reason proves every day that where there are helping hands, there is hope.
