Cover yourself in coke and climb a pole: Celebrating 'Maslenitsa' in Siberia
  • 5 years ago
Russians celebrate the 'Maslenitsa' ('Butter Week') holiday in Siberia on March 10, burning straw women, making pancakes and covering themselves in coca cola to climb poles.

The Eastern Slavic holiday is the equivalent of Shrove Tuesday in Russia and involves a similar national tradition of eating pancakes before "Lent", which begins on a Monday in the Eastern Slavic tradition.
