UPSC CSAT review likely next year, Centre may go ahead with its proposal this year

The government may decide to go ahead with its contentious proposal to take out the marks of the English comprehension test of the Civil Services Aptitude Test from the gradation process of the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Preliminary Examination this year. Sources say the move is being considered because this year's Preliminary Examination is just a fortnight away.

Sources say the government is willing to review the decision for next year's examination. The proposal had met with stiff resistance from regional parties and the government may allow discussion on the issue in Parliament on Wednesday.

The Opposition has been demanding clarity on the government's stand after it announced that the English comprehension marks will not count. Parties from the Hindi heartland want the aptitude test scrapped completely while Tamil parties have demanded that the exam be conducted in all regional languages.

Blame game also began over the issue on Tuesday as the Bharatiya Janata Party accused the previous Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for the mess.
