The Court of Justice of the European Union ruled on June 5 that all EU states, even those that do not recognize same-sex marriage, must recognize the rights of same-sex spouses to live in their partner’s home countries. The case comes after Romania didn’t recognize the right of an American man to live in Romania, his partner’s home country, in 2012 after they were married in Brussels. Romania does not recognize same-sex marriage. The couple had taken their case to the Romanian Constitutional Court in 2016, who referred the case to the Court of Justice of the European Union, Human Rights Watch said.
