To celebrate Australia’s government legalising same-sex marriage on December 7, the country’s ambassador to France, Brendan Berne, marked the occasion by proposing to his partner, Thomas Marti, in Paris, France.In Berne’s video, he first speaks on a balcony on the Australian embassy near the Eiffel Tower, describing his pride at seeing his county’s decision and said it was a “great day for my country … but also for me on a personal level,” Berne then went indoors and asked Marti to marry him, not without a few nerves.
