Chelsea Manning Is Running For U.S. Senate

Chelsea Manning has filed to run for Senate in Maryland. In Federal Election Commission filings dated January 5, Manning declared her statement of candidacy to run as a Democrat in the 2018 election. Manning was convicted in 2013 for 35 years for the largest leak of classified documents in US history, which included military information about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and State Department cables. She is considered to be a whistleblower by many human rights groups and her sentence was shortened to seven years by former President Barack Obama.
