Chelsea Manning To Run For U.S. Senate Seat

Federal election filings show that Chelsea Manning is seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination for the U.S. Senate seat from Maryland. The U.S. Army soldier who served seven years in military prison was released in May after serving time for passing secrets to WikiLeaks in what was the biggest breach of classified data in the history of the US. Democratic Senator Ben Cardin was elected in 2006 to Maryland's seat and is expected to run for re-election this year.
