A Battered Face Raises Awareness Of Domestic Violence On Egyptian TV

In an effort to raise awareness around domestic abuse, an Egyptian broadcaster recently appeared on air with a battered face.

Manal Agha later admitted to her audience that she was wearing makeup, but alluded to having been a victim of domestic violence in the past.

Agha's attempt to raise awareness on domestic abuse comes at a crucial time for the subject in Egypt. Around 18 percent of adult Egyptian women have experienced domestic abuse, according to according to official estimates published in June 2016 by Egypt's Economic Cost of Gender Based Violence Survey.
